Second Step Program
What is SEL?
Children benefit from social-emotional learning (SEL) at any time, but today it’s especially important to help them develop the skills they need to connect and thrive. A leading SEL program in US elementary schools, Second Step® Elementary is research-based and easy to teach, adapt, and scale.
SEL is helpful to both children and adults, increasing self-awareness, academic achievement, and positive behaviors both in and out of the classroom. Students who are equipped to deal with problems that affect them on a personal level are then better able to navigate the pressures of adult life.
Why Second Step?
The elementary years are the ideal time to nurture social-emotional competence and develop foundational learning skills. Our Second Step® Elementary classroom kits offer an evidence-based approach to social-emotional learning (SEL), with age-appropriate lessons that are easy to teach and fun to learn. Including online training, family communications, and additional educator resources, Second Step Elementary classroom kits are used and loved by school communities around the world.
Anna ISD students in Elementary School will receive daily lessons every morning from the counselor over social skills and character skills to build a foundation of healthy emotional learning.
